-mails that paula broadwell sent to a tampa woman, who knew the two generals, david petraeus and john allen even as the president for the first time today spoke about the scandal. at his news conference, the president went out of his way to praise petraeus. >> he has provided this country an extraordinary service. we are safer because of the work that david petraeus has done. >> reporter: as paula broadwell remained in washington and staying with her brother and still not talking, officials say the investigation was triggered in may, when general john allen received an e-mail called "kelley patrol." sources say they said stay away from her, sources close to him said she could ruin him allen she had not sent the e-mail but was concerned she was stalked or electronically hacked, referring to a meeting that she and general allen that she and general allen scheduled. sources say they received four different e-mails, telling jill, she is up to no good, asking him, do you know what your wife is doing when she has different with general petraeus? officials say the e-mail had enough inappropriate inform

, john. i don't believe it is a mandate. >> why isn't a mandate if it is such a big win? >> a mandate for what? a mandate to work together, certainly the entire country wants that. but the real fire bell in the night on this election is for the republican party. there are 100 million folks in this country who are black, brown, asian, hispanic, middle eastern, they voted between 70 and 90% democratic and the white vote only went by 18 points to mitt romney. john of the seven largest states in the country, illinois, new york, pennsylvania, california have gone democratic in six straight elections. the other two, ohio and florida have swung democratic in two elections. and in texas, the white folks in chief connection texas -- texas are now a minority. >>> do you think this was a split verdict? >> not at all. the president won 51.4% of the popular vote which he becomes the sixth president in history to win two terms with over 50% of the dwight eisenhower, i might add. he won an electoral college landslide. george w. bush with a much smaller electoral win pronounced he had a mandate. this

isn't what it was supposed to be, was it? joining me is republican strategist john feehery and democratic strategist bob shrum. did you hear that, feehery? >> yes, sir. >> okay. good. the republican party can no longer count on white voters to carry them to victory in national elections. the white proportion dropped two points, from 72 puff -- actually went to 72% from 74%. while the minority percentage steadily is rising. here is how the 2012 election broke down by racial group. president obama won just 39% of the white vote down from 49% 43% last time, but he outperforms by so much in other demographic groups, he overcomes the white voter deficit. obama got 93% of the black vote on tuesday, 71% of the latino vote. by the way, that's a big difference from the way "w" did it. "w" did pretty well among latino voters, and he got 73% of the asian vote. bob shrum, i want to start with this. we all know looking around and who we know, the country is changing. a lot more people moving to this country from the south, less so from europe, more from asia, south asia, india, pakistan
